We’re delighted to announce the launch of Edvantage, a recruitment business specialising in the supply of Education professionals across the UK.
We caught up with Pete Edwards, the owner of Edvantage, to find out why he decided to launch his business with SSG.
Tell us a little about your recruitment background?
I’ve worked in recruitment now for over 13 years, for the same company specialising within education. I hit the ground running becoming the company top biller from day 1, comprehensively billing in excess of £5-6 million during my time with them. I billed purely on the temp market to begin with fast tracking my way to management and was leading a small team within 12 months, whilst still performing as a company top biller alongside which for me, was the best example to others by leading from the front with my billing. We had 5 different brands within the company group all competing for the same business, with my team peaking at a headcount of 17 performing at optimum level, therefore being the most profitable team within the group for several years. After 9 years of focussing on temporary recruitment within Further Education, I then launched a new division within our brand focussing on both temporary and permanent staffing for Primary Education in both London and the Midlands
What was your motivation for starting your own recruitment business?
It’s something I’d thought and talked about for several years though was always concerned about taking that step; like everyone you have financial responsibilities, the thought of taking a hit on your earnings when you’re used to a certain lifestyle, the uncertainty and risk of coming out of your comfort zone and also being only a number in a company where you’re at risk of losing the love and passion for what you actually do.
All of that said, family is hugely important to me and comes as my biggest motivation, without shadow of a doubt. Life changes as you get older and you begin to learn about perspective; growing up, marriage, priorities change. Our firstborn has recently arrived which is all the motivation I need. Running my own business gives balance and allows flexibility, I can watch our daughter grow from day 1, whilst at the same time run what will become a very successful business and focus on the right stuff.
What sectors do you cover? What roles do you specialise in?
We specialise in recruiting both temporary and permanent staff across all vocational and academic subject areas to Further Education Colleges, Private Training providers, Primary and Secondary Schools.
- Support staff (LSA’s, Technicians, Teaching Assistants, HR, Business Managers etc)
- Senior Leadership and Management
- Executive – Principals, Headteachers, CEO’s
What can customers expect when they work with you?
Being the best that I can be in all aspects of my service; transparency, compassion, honesty, personable, fun and proud, I really do love what I do! My main focus is building relationships over a prolonged period of time for repeat business and to work in partnership with my clients, I’m not in this for spot business to make a few quid quickly and to then move onto the next.
What are your long term plans for the company?
I want to build a UK leading recruitment company who are great and take pride in what we do, knowing that clients will come to us when they have the need, not only due to the high quality calibre of candidates provided but due to the service and relationships that have been built over a period of time.
What would you say are your unique selling points?
