We’re delighted to announce the launch of recruitment startup Flowex Recruitment, who are headed up by Ben Lilley. It’s been great to work with Ben as he started his recruitment business with SSG, and we were lucky enough to catch up with him to find out why he decided to take the plunge!


Tell me a little about your recruitment background?

I started my career in recruitment at a national agency as an apprentice, I quickly found my feet and completed the apprenticeship gaining a level 3 certification in Recruitment Practices, my role started off as a temps consultant covering non qual/QBE roles mostly on a transactional level and evolved into covering qualified finance roles too. I then moved onto a more local agency where I continued to specialise in temp accountancy but also senior level roles. I then moved to an agency based in Newcastle where I covered senior/qualified finance roles.

What was your motivation for starting your own recruitment business?

I knew I always wanted to work for myself, I’ve always been very ambitious and wanting the promotion/next level in my career but found myself getting frustrated with strict/old fashioned processes. I found the only way I’d truly be content is by changing the game and forming my own recruitment business.

What sectors do you cover?  What roles do you specialise in?

I cover the finance sector, specialising mostly in transactional/mid-level roles but also assisting businesses with specialised senior level recruitment. The roles I typically work on range from Accounts Clerk to Financial Director/CFO level.

What can customers expect when they work with you?

A clear, concise tailored approach to each recruitment project. Communication is key to any successful recruitment bout and this is what my clients can expect from me. I understand especially in the finance market that there is no such thing as ‘one size fits all’ so it is important to take a specialised approach with every role I work.

What are your long term plans for the company?

I have very ambitious plans for the business! I’m hoping to expand and grow very quickly and will be looking to move into different markets. I’d like Flowex Recruitment to be a recruitment partner to clients across the board with specialists in every field, not just finance.

What would you say are your unique selling points?

I came originally from a customer service background, this I believe is what gave me the edge against my competition, the customer comes first before the sale and this has shone through. My local market knowledge coupled with my academic qualifications and ability to move quickly without losing the focus on the end goal is what keeps clients coming back time and time again!
